Family "Bonding"

In Utah this weekend it's fall break. The weather happens to be great so we decided to do something fun. You know, kick the kids off the wii and get them out and playing.

For those of you who didn't know, we have had a foster kid living with us for the last couple weeks temporarily. Well on Thursday we found out we're now his "permanent" foster family, at least for now. So we decided to bring him along so everyone could "bond".  (He's been spending most of his time elsewhere and just coming home at night so we haven't really spent much time with him.)

So yesterday late afternoon we went to a science park.  Turns out it was appropriate for kids aged about 4 to 12. So the two teens were bored out of their minds.  Poor Sara spent all her time helping me with kids who had owies.

Then it was time for dinner.  We thought it would be nice to take the whole group somewhere nice, except Julia would only eat at Wendys and Angel would only eat at in-n-out. So we stopped at both and ate it at Applebees.  Except Angel ate his outside and played with his phone in the car while we ate inside. After two double doubles, a large fry and extra large drink he didn't even have room for dessert.

Today we decided to do something that was better for all ages. So we are at Trafalga. I'm writing this from my Blackberry while sitting in the van with tired, grumpy and seriously bored toddlers. Well they're not so bored right now. Lisa is having fun exploring (and destroying) the van. Spoke too soon. She's had it. I had to strap her in the car seat for her own protection and she's not real happy about it.

Sara got stuck taking Stephanie on real and fake pony rides. Angel quickly used up all his tokens and then had to spend some quality time with his cell phone (thank goodness for unlimited data plans!).

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. I'm going out to lunch with my Dad and sisters. The kids can stay home and fight over the wii.  I have a hunch Angel's going to win. Ahhhh....family bonding at its best!
