I haven't posted in awhile. There hasn't been much to say other than we're trying to figure out what to do with our lives. But yesterday, we did do something that was at least worth posting about.
For some reason, lightning struck and I had an idea. The kids keep asking me to let them earn money. They want to go to In-N-Out burger. They want to eat at Wingers. They want to swim at Scera pool. Ok, that's all fine, except that I don't have the money. So I had the idea to have them sell baked goods around the neighborhood.
So Saturday we slept in, had a meeting, and decided to try it. I made homemade bread, Megan made cookies, Julia and Mandy helped with the baking, and Sara and Jeffrey helped with the yard work. The kids cleaned out the wagon, put a blanket in it, and filled it with homemade bread and cookies.
We sold giant sized peanut butter, chocolate chip, and snickerdoodle cookies 3 for $1, big loaves of homemade bread for $3 and small loaves for $1.
The bread didn't get done until almost 6:30, so their selling time was limited. They stopped at 8:30, but ended up with $46! They decided to do this again next week, so I took some money out for supplies and split the rest. They each got $7. They were definitely excited. Sara and Megan saved their money, but the rest wanted to go spend it. So they got to go shopping and buy candy and toys at Wynco. We didn't get home until 11 PM, but everyone had a great time.
At church the next day, we got a lot of remarks about how good everything was and requests to come back if we do that again. So definitely we'll try it again. If it works out, the kids will get their spending money and have something to do this summer.
