She's Back!

Peter's mother, Ursula, has her own home in Provo. She used to have three roommates, but now she's down to one. The one roommate, Susan, that takes care of her decided to move to California. She packed up some of her stuff, dropped off Ursula at our house yesterday and took off. She intends to come back eventually and get the rest of her stuff and go right back again.

Our only hope is that she did this about a year ago and only lasted two weeks. So we hope and pray that happens again. In the mean time, it's a lot worse this time around.

Ursula has to have 24-7 supervision, so we have to keep her in our house. Stephanie lost her room (not again! she screamed) so Ursula could have the room by the bathroom. Now Stephanie is sharing a room with Mandy and Julia because she's too scared to have her own room in the basement.

In the mean time the kids are hating it. Ursula fights with the kids. She drives them nuts, and they scream at her. Then she chases them around. Today she scratched Mandy. We don't know if it's on purpose or not, but neither they nor she are happy she's here.

Her Alzheimer's has progressed to the point where she has no idea where she is, no idea who we are, and no idea who Peter is. She calls his name all day and is always asking if he's going to come pick her up, but when she sees him, she doesn't know it's him.

She misses Susan too. She walks around the house shaking door knobs, banging on doors, and desparately yelling out things like "Susan! Where are you! Don't leave me here!".

Let's just say it's not a good scenario. We're just praying Susan comes back. We're not sure what's going to happen if she doesn't come back. We'll probably have to sell her house and move her into an assisted living facility. I wish we could keep her here, but we don't have the ability to take care of her ever increasing needs and take care of the currently 8 kids too.

So! Please join us in a prayer that Susan will come back. It's the only way Ursula is happy (and my children too!).
