Last Sunday morning, I wasn't feeling very good. I felt like I should drive to church. That's an odd thought because it is half a block from my home. But I did. I grabbed my wallet and John & Annie's car key out of my purse and moved them to my diaper bag. On my way out the door, I also thought I should grab my cell phone. After all, it is my scriptures and lesson manual. So I did. Peter also had a thought to lock his office door. So he did.
We went to church. Megan and Julia weren't ready yet, and Angel hadn't left yet for his other foster home. I came home after Sacrament meeting because I needed to eat. I had forgotten to take my house keys with me, so I rang the door bell and tried the other doors. The great room door was unlocked. I went in, ate, Angel left, and I went to church.
When we got home, we started noticing things were missing. But that isn't too unusual as everything in my house has legs and gets up and walks around on its own anyway. By Monday night though I was starting to suspect we had been robbed.
On Tuesday morning, a lady brought two of my purses to our house. She had found them about two blocks away in a business park. Everything was there except my keys to the van, the truck, and the house. Fortunately, my wallet and John and Annie's car keys were with me so they weren't taken.
That's when we realized that we had been robbed. Based on when we had last seen Peter's old blackberry that had been in his bathroom, we pinpointed the theft down to while we were at church. Unfortunately though, there's no evidence to figure out who did it, so the police are just asking for what's missing. They're not actually doing anything to figure out what happened.
Then we realized that my BlackBerry would have been stolen, my wallet, John & Annie's car key to the Honda Civic, and Peter's notebook computer which was on his desk. The theif had been in the area my blackberry was, and probably walked right by Peter's office. If it wouldn't have been for those hunches, we would have lost things of much more value than we did.
It also could be that I startled them. They took the two wii's, but not the games or remotes. It could be that I scared them off when I came home from church to eat.
So word to the wise: follow strange hunches and always lock up your house! If you can afford it, get real anti-bump locks. Our house was locked, but somehow they still got in, probably even while people were still in the house!
