Yeah, this post is out of order. But that's my life.
For weeks my kids were very excited about Memorial Day at Grandpa's house. All I heard was "Today? Today? Can we go today?" And each day was a count down to when we could go.
The best part was dealing with birthday girl Julia. She knew there would be a fish pond, and everyone would get prizes. And last year there were several people getting presents all on the same day, not just Julia. For some reason that just really bothered her. So all I heard from her was how unfair it was that everyone would get presents on her birthday. Oh brother. I had to keep reminding her that her birthday was on Tuesday, not Monday, and that it's fine for everyone to get prizes, etc. etc.
So finally Memorial Day arrived, rain, snow, sleet, hail and all. We found my brothers dutifully grilling under the carport. It was quite a nice setup they had. Leave it to my brothers to "rough it" right. They had a portable fire pit, camp chairs, and even blankets as well as a portable table and grill. They handled all of the food beautifully despite the bad weather and the food was fantastic, as usual.
My kids love Memorial Day. It's the one day of the year where they get to eat all of the chips, soda, and Popsicles they want. We usually don't have chips and soda at home, so it's like a magical treat for them.
The best part though were the family pictures. My family hasn't had a picture since we had four children. I think if you'd ask anyone who was there, you'd find out why. Dad was awesome though. He managed to actually get a picture of Sara (which I'll post when I get it). He also got all of our family in one picture, looking at the camera, and looking decent all at the same time. It turned out so well I put it on the blog at the top. On top of that he got all 30-something of us (the entire family) in one shot actually looking good. I was impressed. Here are some of the pictures.
